No turning back…well almost

January 26, 2006 at 2:18 pm (Uncategorized)

I did it. I made my appt with the orthodontist. I go in on Monday to have the mold made of my teeth. Then it’s about 4 weeks until they get the laser-precise braces back and I get them put on. I was looking at myself in the mirror this morning trying to picture myself with braces again. So I thought I’d dig out some pictures.

Well, it appears that I went through about 2 years of my life smiling with my mouth closed for all pictures. I did manage to find a couple. Ignore the bad hair and fashion faux paux please.

I also found a great “after” shot that I think I’ll keep out for motivation. Boy did they look good! I can’t wait.

Do I want to relive my teenage years?

January 24, 2006 at 9:25 am (Uncategorized)

If you’re like most of us, you at one point or another had orthodontia right? Well I’m actually considering reliving the wonderful metal years. Over the last 16 years my teeth have moved dramatically and are now quite crooked again. All that money my parents spent seems to have been wasted much to my dismay. Yes, probably my fault for not being faithful with my retainer for the last decade and a half.

I’ve been contemplating braces for probably the last 5 or 6 years but our dental insurance never covered adult orthodontia. It still doesn’t but I can now afford to pay for it anyways.

I had a consultation back in October at a very cool office. Very high tech, it was kind of neat to see the improvements. The braces are much smaller these days and the metal wires are on differently which is supposed to be less painful and quicker. The orthodontist wants to use an even newer technology on me where they take a mold of my teeth and it’s sent off to a company that has developed a program based on the military’s laser guiding technology to position the braces on the teeth at the absolutely optimal position (w/ laser precision basically). They put the braces in position on a plastic piece that slips on to my teeth and then the braces are transferred. Sounds pretty cool huh.

It’s still about 18 months of having braces on though. I’m not sure I’m ready for metal mouth, but I really want to straighten them. Am I crazy for considering it?

Sibling Rivalry

January 16, 2006 at 9:25 am (Uncategorized)

Whoever said “Two is better than one” obviously didn’t have kids 🙂 Natalie and I were gone for 5 days visiting a friend in CT. Noah stayed home with dad and had the house, and the toys, to himself. He got a little too used to it I think. Saturday, our first full day back, was a scream fest with tantrums and melt downs all day long. The kids fought over the littlest thing. Of course they were both tired which just multiplied it by about 100.

Sunday wasn’t much better. At one point I hauled them off to their rooms, shut the doors and told them not to come out til I said.

Today seems to be going better – keep your fingers crossed.
