Recreating Stonehenge

June 6, 2006 at 3:00 pm (Home)

So right now it looks like a poor man’s version of Stonehenge but what it really is is the start of my Pergola. FINALLY. After waiting 5 weeks for my building permit it means that we’re building it in the midst of Phoenix’s summer. This week hit a sudden heat spike so my dad and I were toiling away in 111 degrees.

We got started at 6:30 in the morning and between the 2 of us we went through 5 gallons of water. So at the end of a very long day, this is what it looks like. It may not look like much but what you can’t see is that all the rest of the wood is cut and basically all that’s left is assembly which will begin tomorrow around 6:30 p.m. We did learn that we should have laid out the wood for the shape before we dug the post holes which we originally placed based on the dimensions – WRONG. We had to enlarge several holes which ate up a lot of time.

I’ll be sure to post a picture when it’s done.
