Life Soundtrack

So do you have certain songs that WHENEVER they play they take you right back to a moment in time?

I’m doing some deadline work and jammin to my “rock n roll” playlist on iTunes. It just hit “Life is a Highway” by Tom Cochrane. I CANNOT hear this song without vividly remembering a road trip when I was in college.

The trip from JBU in Arkansas to home in Phoenix was about a 17-18 hour trip and I can’t remember how many times we drove it in those 4 years – always straight through. Usually with now husband. But this particular trip we were with his Aunt (who worked at the college), her 2 high school sons, and hubby’s brother. So 6 of us driving in the huge red suburban (not one of those new fancy ones either). Now “Aunt D” is known to be a little bit of a lead foot. It was probably about 1 a.m. when this song came on. We turned it up as loud as we could and sang at the top of our lungs as we sped down the highway.

We had made “beds” in front of each of the 2 bench seats which we called the “pits”. So everyone (except the front seat) had a nice place to strech out and we’d fit over who got to sleep in the pit. (Yes, totally unsafe I know.)

We made record time that trip – I think it was like 15 hours. It was one of the funnest road trips ever.
