All “atwitter” with changes

September 11, 2008 at 8:49 pm (Uncategorized)

As of next Monday morning I will be sitting at a new desk and working on a new computer.

Not just any new computer, but a Mac. It took me awhile to think back, but it has been about 11 years since I used a Mac. Before that I had been back and forth a few times. The computers at the college lab were PC but the school newspaper was Mac. The first computer I owned was a Mac as well. But now, wow, 11 years is a long time. I’ve committed a lot of PC shortcuts to memory in that time :-)

But I’m excited and I know it will come back to me quickly. And really, Photoshop is Photoshop no matter what platform you run. Except for I’m hoping it will run faster on my 4GB Ram Mac!

On top of that I’m moving down the hall into another office. For the last year I’ve shared the Media Office with Derrick our Worship Director and whoever happened to be editing video. In the last couple weeks we’ve added two new people – Josh doing video and Sean as Pastor of Creative Arts. That not only makes it kind of crowded, but VERY loud!

So starting Monday I’ve been moved into the office with Kathleen (aka Sassy Granny) and Bob which conveniently is right next door to Greg. No more walking ALL the way to the other end of the office only to discover that he’s gone to lunch. Yeah!

I’ll let you know how my Mac transition goes.

Don’t Miss This

Carlos posted this on his blog and it is too funny not to pass on. Don’t get so caught up in watching that you forget to listen to the words. For they are priceless.

Got meat?

September 7, 2008 at 10:14 pm (Home, Money)

One of the best purchases we made was buying a used chest freezer several years ago. I can’t remember but I think we paid something like $125 for it.

With the addition of 2 more kids this is going to become even more crucial. Because, you see, I hate to go grocery shopping more than a couple times a month.

So I’ll be buying like 8 loaves of bread at a time.

It’s also great when you meat goes on sale. When boneless, skinless chicken breasts go on sale for $1.69/lb I buy like 5 packages.

A few weeks ago I bought 40 lbs of hamburger.

Yes, you read that right… 40 lbs.

It was $1/lb.

Not going to pass that up.

I rebagged the hamburger using this trick I learned from someone’s WFMW.

Name Ideas

September 6, 2008 at 10:16 pm (Faith, Parenting)

We are still searching for the right names for our new kids. We’ve got it narrowed down for W-boy but are still really at a loss for B-girl.

While I’m not set on having a Bible name necessarily, I find myself always paying attention to the names in case I find something unusual that strikes me.

At our family worship time we’ve been reading through the Bible, beginning in Genesis. Right now we’re about at Jacob finding a wife.

It’s usually dad or I reading and we do our best but honestly, some of the names are just wild. We stumble through the pronunciations as best we can.

And occasionally we read a name, or in this case a set of names, and I can’t help it. I start to giggle. And then the kids start to giggle and it takes us a couple of minutes to regain our composure.

Genesis 22:21 Uz the firstborn, Buz his brother…

The first thing that flashed into my mind was these guys:

“Hi, I’m Uz, this is my brother Buz.”

The other one that get us in trouble is Phicol (Gen 21:22). Now I realize it’s probably pronounced more like Ficol but the first time I read it, I read “pickle” and my stomach hurt we were laughing so hard. And it’s just kind of stuck.

I’m not sure how much dad appreciates our giggly diversions but the kids and I have great fun.

WFMW: Waking up Grumpy

September 2, 2008 at 9:22 pm (Uncategorized)

Today is backwards edition of WFMW in which we get to ask for advice. So here’s mine.

My almost 9 year old son definitely takes after me in the morning grumps department. It took hubby abou 12 years to learn that he just shouldn’t talk to me until I’ve had my shower. But since we do kids baths at night, that doesn’t help.

It takes about 20 minutes for him to really get going and yes, I could wake him up 20 minutes early but unless I just let him sit on the coach under a blanket, he annoys and grumps at everyone else and then we’re all miserable.

So any ideas for getting grumpy kids to be nice in the morning?

Back to Shannon’s for more WFMW.
